Russian River Bikes

Born out of necessity, Russian River Bikes is your basic 'Mom & Pop' shop. Guerneville is a small river community, combined with Monte Rio and Rio Nido, has a population of less than 5000. It is located on the Russian River near the Sonoma County wine country.

The previous bike shop closed three years ago so it made perfect sense to open one to serve the needs of the local community and the summer tourist crowds. Guerneville is a typical tourist town where most of the local jobs are for low pay in the service industry. Local economics prohibit the traditional bicycle retail store with rows of shiny new bikes for sale. Many of the local residents depend on bicycles as their main source of transportation.

Russian River Bikes mission is to support the local communities' need for service and repairs, to provide rentals to the tourists and support the many recreational riders touring the lower Russian River and wine country. An agreement with Raleigh to purchase 25 new bikes resulted in a rental fleet of new Comfort, Cruiser and Tandems.

The shop opened the first weekend in May 2001. It's hours of business are Fri-Sun 10:00am – 5:00pm, Mon 11:00am – 4:00pm. Construction plans will close the shop during October and November. The building is located in the flood plane and scheduled to be raised 6 feet.

Plans for year 2002 include expanded hours, a rental fleet to 50 bicycles, increase service area to cover from Sebastopol to Jenner and a line of new bicycles that are priced within the reach of the local population.
