Devil Mountain Double
George Pinney ran a GREAT 200 mile ride this last Saturday (4/23/01). My CATEYE recorded 203 miles and 17,400' of climbing. Even though the weather was predicted to be poor, it was CLEAR and COOL for the ride with very little water (or ice) on the road. There was snow along the sides of the road on Mines RD before and after the rest stop. Near the top of Hamilton (on Mines) there were only small amounts of sand on the downhill and snow removal was not a problem. The rest stops were very well placed on the new route and the scenery along Skyline was outstanding (especially for those of us from Southern CA). Also going up Hamilton and Sierra Rd early in the ride makes things easier. I didn't get lost, but road with Todd T. who knew the last half of the ride well. The people at all of the rest stops were more helpful than ever and there seemed to be more of them than in years past. The route was a bit more "scenic" than previous years and possibly a little easier (I skipped the 600+ft option on Castle Crest) GREAT EVENT !
