Watermelon Ride

Sunday, July 29, 2018

Today is our annual Watermelon ride which ends in riders coming together to enjoy cold watermelon in the park. There was some discussion of abandoning this ride entirely because so few riders seem to attend it anymore. But I thought we would give it one more shot. I don’t understand why more people don’t show up. Everyone likes watermelon and it’s free. The rides are short and easy, so they are not beyond anyone’s capability. Plus, you don’t even have to do any riding. Just drive over and enjoy the free watermelon and conversation. So come on out and save this ride. If we don’t get much of a turnout this year, it will probably be the last. We only have two routes today which start from Carlson Park in Culver City. Both head to the coast, but the medium then heads south to Palos Verdes and back while the Short heads north to Santa Monica and back. Just enough to work up an appetite for the watermelon which will be waiting for you when you return to the park. The perfect end to the day. For those planning their own ride to the watermelon or who simply want to drive over, the watermelon will probably be ready to serve anytime from 11 a.m. until mid-afternoon. So join us. We don’t care how you get there – just get there. START: CARLSON PARK in Culver City. From San Diego Frwy, off and east on either Culver or Washington (careful–neither of those exits actually put you directly on those streets). Right on Overland and Left on Braddock a few blocks to park. We will meet at the northeast corner of the park. (Medium 39 mi and 700 ft, Short, 29 mi and 500 ft)
