Funny Bunny Easter/April Fools Ride.

Sunday, April 01, 2018

Today we have a double holiday ride. It’s Easter, but it is also April Fools’ Day. Easter can fall anywhere between March 22nd and April 25th so I would think it falls on the 1st every so often, but I really couldn’t remember it ever happening before. I did a little research and it turns out the last time this happened was 1956. I was only 5 years old so no wonder I don’t remember it. The date of Easter is determined by several unrelated factors (such as the earth’s movement round the sun and the moon’s movement around earth) so its occurrence on any given date is almost random. For instance, it will fall again on April Fools’ day in 2029 – only 11 years from now.  Except for the dates at the beginning and end of the possible period, Easter occurs on each possible dates about a 3.3% of the time over a period of several million years. It turns out the exact sequence of Easter dates doesn’t start repeating for over 5 million years. Well, all that is interesting but we have a ride to describe here. Whether you are celebrating Easter or April Fools’ Day, today’s offerings are short and relatively flat. The routes head down to the Marina for brunch where we can dine al fresco and soak in the rays. The long and medium do a few small hills in Beverly Hills first (nothing real bad) before heading south to the Marina. The short skips the hills. The long takes an extra loop on the return for a couple of more hills and some extra miles. Come on out. The rides are short so you can spend the rest of the day celebrating Easter or pulling pranks on your friends. You could combine the two by giving them colored eggs which haven’t been boiled yet. BTW, I got the information on Easter dates above from this web site: (Long 44 mi and 1900 ft; Medium 34 mi and 1300 ft; Short 25 mi and 500 ft)
