Cruise and Climb In Claremont.

Not long ago I looked through one of those “click bait” or “listicle” items on the web which was entitled something like “The 20 most difficult colleges to get into.” It was based on the percentage of applications to each school which get accepted. I think all 5 of the Claremont colleges (Pomona, Scripps, Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd and Pitzer) made the list. Well, those colleges may be hard to get into as a student, but we can ride through them at our pleasure on our bikes. Today we start in Claremont near these schools. Despite the name, there isn’t as much climbing as you might think. No mountains anyway. Just the usual hills around the East San Gabriel Valley. The long and medium do a couple of medium sized climbs such as Grand Ave. and Brea Cyn. They end up in Diamond Bar for lunch. The medium then heads back while the long does an extra loop. The hilly short does much the same route as the medium but cuts off some of the climbing. The easy short cuts out most of the hills. The long returns through the campus area and maybe you will see some of those lucky students who got in. START: EL ROBLE JR. HIGH SCHOOL at Harrison and Mountain in Pomona. From San Bernardino Frwy (I-10) off and north on Towne in Pomona for 1½ miles, R – Harrison a few blocks to Mountain. (Long 59 mi and 3300 ft, Medium 46 mi and 2700 ft, Hilly Short 35 mi and 2000 ft, Easy Short 26 mi and 1100 ft)
