Off To The Races

Sunday, July 30, 2017

The Tour de France ended last Sunday but that doesn’t mean you have to stop watching bicycle racing. There is an annual day of racing right here in Manhattan Beach and for over 50 years now, the club has been attending. It’s called the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix and we will be riding down from the “Corner” to take in some of the races. These are circuit races where the racers ride a relatively short circuit, so all you have to do is stand there and wait and the racers will come screaming by every few minutes. In between races there are vendors and other things to see. We offer two options today depending on what you want to do. The short route is just a ride from the “Corner” down to Manhattan Beach and back with a rest in the middle as you watch some racing. For those wanting a little more, there is the long route which adds a trip into Palos Verdes before getting to the races. Watching races, whether it’s the Tour de France or racing like this, always gets me in the mood to ride. So come on out and get motivated. START: THE “CORNER”, Olympic Blvd, 1 block west of La Cienega in Beverly Hills.  From the Santa Monica Frwy (10), off and north La Cienega 12 miles, L – Olympic 1 block to R- Le Doux.  (Long 70 mi and 2800 ft, Short 35 mi and 800 ft)
