Will Rogers Park

Sunday, June 25, 2017

Today is the day after the Grand Tour and traditionally many (if not most) members are too tired from either riding the Grand Tour or staffing the Grand Tour to show up for a ride this morning. So, just in case some of them manage to crawl out of bed this morning, we usually schedule an easy ride from the Corner. Today’s routes are perfect for this. There are only medium and short routes today (which works out well since most would be too tired for a long route). Both routes head to the polo grounds at Will Rodgers Park where they often are actually playing polo. You can stop and watch the action. The short pretty much just heads to the park and back. The medium takes a slightly more circuitous route there and a little extra loop on the way back with a little extra climbing thrown in. Both routes meet up at the park and for lunch in Santa Monica. When I ride the Grand Tour, I always try to ride the next day just to show that the Grand Tour is no big thing to me, but most years I don’t make it out of bed in time. If I do show up this year, I’ll be riding the short route for sure.  START: THE “CORNER”, Olympic Blvd, 1 block west of La Cienega in Beverly Hills. From the Santa Monica Frwy (10), off and north La Cienega 1.2 miles, L – Olympic 1 block to R- Le Doux. (Medium 35 mi and 2200 ft, short 28 mi and 1400 ft)
